On July 15, 2017, the chapter participated in the Camp Greene World War I training camp Centennial event, along with the Historic Camp Greene Neighborhood Association. In 1926, our chapter placed a monument on the corner of Wilkinson Boulevard and Monument Street, the edge of the former Camp Greene property, to commemorate the military training camp. It is one of our 29 chapter markers.
The chapter installed a new engraving and plaque for the monument to commemorate the Centennial event. This site is listed on the National DAR Registry of Historic Site and Places, and is one of only 3 such sites in NC owned by the DAR.
On October 15, 2017, our chapter participated in a service project for the National DAR Day of Service, the anniversary of the founding of the National Society on 10/11/1890.
Chapter members, friends, children, husbands, and veterans joined together at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Charlotte to plant and dedicate a new tree, donate a new flag, and clean up and plant new landscaping around the property. This property is owned by the Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Department.
